Welcome to something new - for me anyway. Substack is increasing the things that writers can do on the site and one of these things is audio blogs. I’ve never done one before, so this is me just dipping my toe into audio blog waters, rather than diving straight in.
After attending ADEX 2024 in Singapore last month and giving a couple of short talks there, we went to Hong Kong for a couple of weeks to do a bit of life admin and catch up with people.
While having dinner one evening with friends Al and Fiona, we were talking about the popularity of audiobooks and Al told me that he does a lot of his reading with his ears these days, listening not just to audiobooks but also current affairs audio blogs while he’s commuting.
This got me thinking about my Scuba Conversational newsletters and wondering how they might suit the audio blog format. So I thought I would give it a try. First, I want to test the format with a very short clip about my Technically Speaking book that I presented at the ADEX Book Festival before a short selling and signing session. You can hear this by clicking the button at the top of this page.
Then, I’ll follow this up in a few days with a longer audio blog based on a talk on the ADEX Tekdive Conference stage that I gave over the same weekend.
I’m not going to abandon the text and image Scuba Conversational newsletters - I’ll be continuing to write those as usual - but the idea is to offer an audio version of the newsletter too, plus release other audio blogs from time to time, featuring talks I’ve given at dive shows over the past few years, clips from chapters in the Technically Speaking 2: Strategies book that I am currently writing and anything else that might come to mind and that I haven’t thought of yet.
I hope this all meets with your approval.
Feedback is always welcome.
